Cabinet refinishing, cabinet refacing, or new cabinets?

There are so many people remodeling their kitchens. This is due in large part to the housing market slump and the fact that many people are waiting out having to sell their house for less. A recent article stated that nearly half of a kitchen remodeling budget is spent on cabinets. When it comes to kitchen cabinets there are few different options. I've provide some insight on each option below.

1) Get new cabinets. This is by far the most expensive option. Additionally, getting new cabinets is messy and time-consuming. If you happen to be one of the few people out there who has plenty of money, doesn't mind strangers running around your house for a long time, and can tolerate the mess associated with this then go for it.

2) Cabinet refacing. Refacing is still pretty expensive and time-consuming. It tends to not be as messy. The big issue with refacing is that most people already have decent cabinets. Refacing usually replaces something that can serve as a good pallet for refinishing with cheap, veneer doors. Blahhhh!

3) Cabinet refinishing. Now refinishing is where it's at. As long as you find the right refinisher who has plenty of experience and lots of great referrals this is certainly the route for most people. With refinishing you will find that there is far less of a mess, the refinisher will be in and out of your house in days versus weeks, and the investment is only a fraction of new cabinets or refacing.
